Can I arrange cover quickly?
It is common now that life insurance polices will provide cover immediately from the point of application for a period of 3 months, while any medicals are carried out and all the paperwork is completed - that whole process could take several weeks for some cases, so the advent of immediate cover was brought in to allay any worries.
Will I need a medical ?
Not every new life policy requires a medical examaination - it depends on your age, your medical history and possibly your family's medical history. The particular company providing the cover will determine whether a medical is necessary and liaise with you and your doctor. Companies will generally be able to give an indicative quote for your monthly premium in advance of a medical, but the premium may be revised in light of the examination results.
Do I need to put the policy in trust?
You should always take professional advice with important decisions such as life insurance policies, but the general concensus, under current legislation, is that most policies will benefit from being "written in trust". What this means is that any payout from the policy will go directly to the beneficiaries and not form part of your estate, where it would be subject to inheritance tax.
